UMP Healthcare Holdings Limited (“UMP” or the “Group”, Stock Code: 722.HK) launched the " Radiant Care for Healthy Breasts " charity program to celebrate International Women's Day. The Group generously offered 100 free 3D mammography examinations and medical consultations to low-income working women. Caritas–Hong Kong (“Caritas”) wholeheartedly supports the initiative and will refer the service to women in need.
Ms. Jacquen KWOK, Executive Director and Co-CEO of UMP, said, "Busy work and family life are the common reasons for women’s negligence to their own health. Therefore, we purposefully launched the " Radiant Care for Healthy Breasts " charity program on International Women's Day to encourage women to have regular health checks. We deeply appreciate the support from the three Caritas centres, and look forward to the benefits that this program will bring to underprivileged women, showing our gratitude to women for their invaluable contributions to our families, economy and society. Early detection of health problems along with appropriate and timely treatment can not only increase the likelihood of a successful recovery but also preserve family unity."
This initiative, donated by the "UMP Charity Foundation," invites Caritas to refer 100 low-income working women over the age of 40 for screening. Beneficiaries have the opportunity to consult with doctors and receive 3D mammography examinations at the UMP+ Preventive Medicine Centre and ProCare Medical Imaging & Laboratory Centres on the 26th floor of Lee Garden Two in Causeway Bay.
Data shows that breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in Hong Kong, constituting for 28.5% of all newly diagnosed female cancer cases in 2021. Breast cancer is also the third most lethal cancer for women in Hong Kong, following lung cancer and colorectal cancer. In 2022, a total of 792 women lost their lives to this devastating cancer, accounting for 12.5% of all cancer-related deaths among females. The age-standardised incidence rate and death rate of female breast cancer have been on the rise over the past decade, indicating that the situation requires immediate attention.
Mr. Charlie CHAN, Service Head of Caritas Youth and Community Service, a representative from Caritas said, "We are very grateful to UMP for paying attention to the needs of grassroot women and offering free breast cancer screenings to them. We believe that this charity program can help these women detect and treat diseases as early as possible, thereby reducing the medical expenses of grassroots families. Caritas has always provided relief and rehabilitation services for the poor, and this plan is in line with our purpose. As the referral organization for the event, we fully support the program."
ProCare Medical Imaging & Laboratory Centres (Lee Garden Two), UMP’s latest imaging facility located in Causeway Bay, opened on 8 March 2024. The centre is equipped with advanced medical imaging devices and contains gender-specific areas, which allow patients to receive examinations in a high-privacy setting, minimizing embarrassment and enhancing their willingness to undergo examinations.
